You should also arrive hydrated and have put on hand lotion before your appointment. You are required to bring a government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth. Photo IDs that will be accepted include passports and drivers licenses. Photo IDs from employers, educational institutions or other non-government issued photo ID will not be accepted.

Live scan fingerprints are scanned using a small machine and then uploaded to a computer, which transfers the fingerprints onto an FD-258 card. With ink, your fingertips will be rolled onto ink, then rolled onto an FD-258 card. Although they are different methods, you get the same result.

It depends. Some states will allow you to get live scan if you are not in their state, but some will not. It is always good to check with the party receiving the fingerprints.
